After the change of our program of yesterday we caught up on the city tour today. Our guide gave us an overall view over the city. She showed us the bar streets near our apartments and also the shopping area. We learnt a lot about the history of the city – there was a huge fire which destroyed the beautiful buildings but luckily they were rebuilt, just the way there were before the fire. There were also some political changes such as the carnation revolution which are interesting to know. Lisbon is for sure a city with a lot of history. After walking through the shopping street we arrived at the huuuge gate and we were able to take the stairs up to have an overwhelming view of the city. If you’re in Lisbon I can really recommend you to take this opportunity – the view is just stunning. Then we walked to the St. George’s castle and stayed there a short time. Unfortunately our guide went with another group of our class so that we didn’t learn that much about the castle. Later that day we went to Belém, but I’ll tell you more about it in the next post. One more thing I’d like to mention is the Typografia shop which sells self-made shirts. They have really cool designs and it’s worth checking out.
